Shelby, Montana: Scientists in China conduct 'successful' head transplant on rat

Bradley P. Barrientos 3825 West Fork Street Shelby, MT 59474

Scientists in China claim to have conducted a successful head transplant on a rat.

Controversial surgeon Sergio Canavero and colleague Xiaoping Ren attached the head of a smaller rat onto a larger one while maintaining the brain activity of the donor.

A third rat was used to keep up blood pressure on the rats being operated on, which otherwise would have been catastrophic and killed the animals.

The experiment was repeated on a number of other rats. Most only survived for around 36 hours after the procedure.

But it was hailed as a success by Dr Canavero because its goal was to avoid major blood loss.

Images of the rats appear to show the donor’s front paws and head stitched to the upper neck of the recipient rat.

Dr Canavero has previously conducted a similar experiment on a dog, in which its spinal cord was severed, but it is unknown how long it survived for.

Last year, he claimed to have successfully carried out a head transplant on a monkey, which survived for 20 hours before being euthanised for ethical reasons.

Despite the poor survival rate of the rats, Dr Canavero maintained the experiment was a crucial step forward towards head transplants on humans.

But other neurosurgeons have disputed this claim. Responding to the dog experiment, neuroscientist at Case Western Reserve University Jerry Silver told the New Scientist: “These papers do not support moving forward in humans.”

Dr Canavero has announced he and Dr Xiaoping will attempt to carry out the first head transplant later this year in Harbin, China.

He first announced his intention to carry out the procedure in 2013 and has been encouraged by his latest success.

A Russian man with the degenerative Werdnig-Hoffman's disease named Valery Spiridonov was going to undergo the procedure but Dr Canavero has now said a Chinese citizen will undergo the process.

In a statement, Dr Canavero said a “high number of volunteers from all over the world came forward”.

He added: “The final decision is only made immediately prior to the operation, as it also depends on the body donor, who has to be compatible with the receiver in many ways.”

Other scientists have strongly criticised the plan.

"I would not wish this on anyone," said Dr Hunt Batjer, the president of the American Association for Neurological Surgeons, in 2015. "I would not allow anyone to do it to me as there are a lot of things worse than death."

Gary, Indiana: Botox could be ‘game changer’ for erectile dysfunction, Canadian urologists say

Brian K. Rogers 3042 Duffy Street Gary, IN 46402

In a surprising, and seemingly counterintuitive application of a wildly popular wrinkle relaxer, two Canadian urologists are testing Botox for impotence.

If it does for men what it has so far done in aged male rats, Botox may offer a persistent, long-acting (months at a time) way to restore erectile function in men, they believe.

Their preliminary data suggests Botox, or botulinum toxin injections, can increase blood flow to the penis by paralyzing the nerves that cause smooth muscles within the penis to contract.

Erections depend mainly on a good blood flow.

“The advantage of this would be that you inject it once, it lasts for six months potentially, and the pump would be primed every time you wanted to have sex,” said Dr. Sidney Radomski, a professor of surgery and urology at the University of Toronto.

Other forms of penile injection therapy have existed for years, but men have to self-inject every time they want to have sex. Meanwhile, Viagra and other pills that belong to a class known as PDE-5 inhibitors — drugs that act on the chemical signals that open up the blood vessels in the penis — have to be taken before sex, or daily. They can also cause side effects such as headache and heartburn. As well, Viagra doesn’t work for a third or more of men who try it, said Dr. Gerald Brock, professor of surgery at Western University in London.

“It’s probably 50 per cent of men who’ve had prostate cancer surgery; maybe 40 per cent of men with diabetes,” he said. “There are subgroups (of men) where the response rate is almost a 50-50 shot.”

Botox, he said, may help “salvage” those non-responders. Writing in the current issue of the Journal of Sexual Medicine, Brock and co-author, French urologist Francois Giuliano, go further, saying Botox could be a “potential game changer” for ED.

Others worry ED drugs are already perpetuating narrow social norms of masculinity and male sexuality — the idea, says University of Iowa medical anthropologist Emily Wentzell, that “in some way, to be a real man, you have to be this penetrative force.”

She worries categories of sexual dysfunction are proliferating and expanding, and that normal, age-related changes are being framed as “pathological.”

Writing in the Journal of Sex Research, Wentzell argues the medicalization of impotence “and the emphasis on casting phallocentric sex as the natural and healthy sexual ideal have been promoted worldwide through ED drug marketing.”

It’s very much a Euro-North American phenomenon, she said, noting Chinese men, for example, have had a “lukewarm” response to Viagra.

“Obviously medical solutions can help men who feel really bad they can’t live up to their own desires, and maybe their partner’s desires, and certainly cultural scripts about how a man should be,” Wentzell said in an interview.

“But we don’t think about variation in bodily function as natural anymore,” she said. “Instead, we’re narrowing our idea of what counts as ‘normal.’ ”

Men often don’t talk to their partners before seeking out ED drugs she said, or keep their use secret. “Yet research shows that when men talk to their partners, their partners are fine with the change, or they would be fine if they explored other sexual activities.”

Radomski has been using Botox to treat overactive bladders by paralyzing the smooth muscles in the bladder. The injections last six to nine months. He wondered whether it might work in a similar way for penises by allowing the smooth muscles to relax, dilate and allow more blood flow to rapidly fill the penis.

In a rat study, “we saw exactly what he had predicted,” Brock said. “Improved erections were actually seen.”

The animal model isn’t the same as humans. For one thing, the researchers used an electrical current to stimulate the nerves to induce an erection.

While much more research is needed in animals, they hope to start clinical trials in men within six to 12 months. For now there’s little real data, except for one small published pilot study from Egypt. There, a dozen men who received a single injection of Botox showed increased arterial flow and improved scores on a “sexual health inventory” two weeks post-injection.

Still, Botox isn’t innocuous. Made from the bacteria that cause botulism, it can spread to other body areas beyond where it’s injected. In too high doses, “If it goes into the bloodstream, it can kill you, basically, because it can paralyze everything,” Radomski said.

The plan is to use an exceptionally small dose. However, there’s also the potential risk of causing a permanent change like priapism — prolonged erections without sexual stimulation.

“I think that would be a very small risk,” Brock said, “but certainly that would be one of the things that we would be looking for and trying to titrate the dose so it would not occur.”

Tongkat ali standardization is a scam, copied many times over on the Internet. Good for you if it's just a lie (which most probably it is) . Bad for you if indeed they enrich their alleged tongkat ali with eurycomanone. Because it would be reagent grade eurycomanone, not pharmaceutical grade. Better be careful with your health.

Lafayette, Indiana: Neurosurgeon plans to bring deceased BACK TO LIFE with pioneering BRAIN TRANSPLANT

Chad V. Flanagan 3695 Sugarfoot Lane Lafayette, IN 47905

DEAD people who have been cryogenically frozen could be brought back to life within three years - by having their brains transplanted into in a new body, a pioneering neurosurgeon has claimed.

Professor Sergio Canavero is preparing to perform the world's first successful head transplant this December and believes the first ever brain transplant is only a few years away from also becoming a reality.

Prof Canavero, director of the Turin Advanced Neuromodulation Group, said his team had made "massive progress" in experiments that "seemed impossible even as recently as a few months ago".

In an interview with German magazine Ooom, he said: "We are currently planning the world’s first brain transplant, and I consider it realistic that we will be ready in three years at the latest."

Despite the huge scientific and ethical implications of his work, Prof Canavero is pressing ahead with his ground-breaking plans, and has teamed up with Dr. Xiaoping Ren of China to carry out the world's first head transplant later this year.

The operation will be carried out at Harbin Medical University, northern China, and the patient will be Chinese, Prof Canavero said.

The biggest barrier to a successful head transplant is reconnecting the brain to the severed spinal column, in order to control movement and sensation.

But Prof Canavero insisted: "This problem has now been solved."

He said his team had successfully restored mobility to mice that had had their spinal chords entirely severed using a fluid called Texas-PEG.

He added that many controlled studies on different animals had been conducted in South Korea and China and that the results were "unambiguous".

"The spinal cord – and with it the ability to move – can be entirely restored," he said.

Plans to perform the world's first brain transplant are already underway, the surgeon said.

Despite widespread scepticism in the scientific community, Prof Canavero said a brain transplant had "many advantages".

He said: ”First, there is barely any immune reaction, which means the problem of rejection does not exist.

"The brain is, in a manner of speaking, a neutral organ."

He said one problem was the brain would be hosted in an entirely different body, the impact of which remained to be seen.

Nevertheless, Prof Canavero said he hoped to bring back to life the first patients currently frozen at the Alcor Life Extension Foundation in Arizona.

Should he succeed in resurrecting the dead, Prof Canavero said the implications would permanently alter mankind's understanding of the world - and that religion "will be swept away forever".

He said: "They (religous beliefs) will no longer be necessary, as humans will no longer need to be afraid of death.

"They will know as a scientific fact that our consciousness – or whatever it is – survives death. We no longer need a Catholic Church, no Judaism and no Islam because religions in general will be obsolete."

By extension, the answer to the question "what is the meaning of life?" would also be redundant, the surgeon said.

"If we take hope out of life, out of the human equation, then what remains?," Prof Canavero explained.

Injections of Botox into the penis probably are the most effective treatment for erectile dysfunction. Every artery and vein in the body is surrounded by a layer of smooth muscle. Otherwise there could not be variations in blood pressure. When the muscles around blood vessels contract, this is called vadoconstriction. When the muscles around blood vessels relax, this is called vasodilation.

Oakland, California: Marriages or Legal Prostitution in Saudi Arabia?

Jerry S. Ceja 4825 Beech Street Oakland, CA 94612

Dr.Mazhar Naqvi
A fanatic viewer does not consider the blogger as a historian and heritage management expert. He describes him as Shia and Kafir. Despite clarification that only those who deny Allah and Holy Prophet as his messenger can be dubbed as kafirs, he goes ahead with his own interpretation.Amusingly, he considers Jahangir as a true believer and alleges that Shias raise objection over a womaniser and drunkard Emperor while they themselves enjoy the privilege of Muta. He even went on stating once that Shias resort to Swapping of their wives with a sarcastic remark "Teri Meri,Meri Teri,Ha,Ha,Ha,Ha.

It is clear from all his replies that he is an ardent admirer of Saudi Arabia and out of his ignorance feels that Salafis /Wahabis/Saudis are devout Muslims. To make the fanatic understand as to how Grand Muftis of Saudi Arabia have legitimized prostitution through their unique fatwas and how many types of marriages are being performed in so called holy kingdom, the blogger decided to reveal the true face of Saudi Salafis. While my fanatic friend did not support his accusation with any fact ,figure or evidence, the blogger is replying to his allegations as under :

1- Misyar is a temporary relationship between men and women for sexual pleasure. In this relationship the woman relinquishes all her rights that are available to her in an Islamic marriage. It is claimed that 60 Salafi scholars, including Saudi Grand Mufti Shaikh Abdulaziz al-Shaikh endorsed Misyar relationship between men and women in their fatawas.

2-Arab News reported on October 12, 2014 that MISYAR IS A WIDESPREAD SOCIAL REALITY IN SAUDI SALAFI SOCIETY as 7 out of 10 marriages in Saudi Arabia are based on Misyar.

Several other formats of fake marriages in Saudi Arabia are :
(a) URFA - In this relationship, there are no official contracts signed and also does not give women any rights whatsoever. She is kept as along as the man wishes to use her for sex.
(b) MESYAF ( Summer holiday marriage) - It is a tourism marriage practised by Saudis and other Salafis in the world who go on summer vacation to countries, like Yamen, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and other countries. They take advantage of poor Muslim families by fake marriages with young, rather very young girls between the ages of 9 to 16 years in collusion with local middlemen and agents who are paid for these notorious services.
(c) FRIEND MARRIAGE - In this marriage, the bride does not go out of her house. The male goes to her house in the night or meets with her in a hotel and have sex with her.Then.she goes back to her home. There is no provision of legal maintenance from man.In most of the cases the woman demands a certain amount and gets it in advance.
(e) MISFAR - (Foreign study and Business Trip marriage)It is a deceptive marriage contracted by a Salafi for sexual gratification so that a woman may cohabit with him for the period he is visiting a foreign country. These women are formally divorced after a short period that ranges from a week to a month. It is natural that most of these women who fall victim to this kind of fake marriage come from deprived backgrounds, and have very little say in the matter. Many Fatawa by Saudi Scholars in this context are available on officialwebsites like Bin Baaz.

Most alarming in this context is the Fatwa by Shaikh Adil Al-Kalbani, the Imam of the Grand Mosque of Makka issued on July 16, 2010. This Fatwa was published on www.al-arabiya.net. Sheikh issued this fatwa after receiving an email from an overseas Saudi male student studying in the ‘West’. The Saudi student, who is married and living with his wife, claims that he is worried about controlling his desires when he sees ‘Western’ females wearing seductive semi-naked clothes that arouse him.He asks the Sheikh it is OK to marry one of those women in a ‘Misfar’ marriage,

Sheikh posted on his own website his fatwa that permits Saudis marrying Western women with the intention of divorcing them when they are finished with them without the pre-knowledge of the women of their deceitful plan. Meaning, the Imam has given green light to Saudi overseas students and travelling businessmen to use women as disposable containers to relieve themselves sexually.

Saudi Newspaper Ash-Sharq on February 03, 2011, devoted its main page to launch a scathing and virulent attack on Saudis who travel abroad and indulge in obscene (sex) parties, night clubs and prowl in sex tourism countries around the Globe. The paper also published several pictures, videos and films showing Saudis dancing in obscene parties.

Actually, if they can live with the fact that men have a sexuality to cope with, and if they aren't feminists, women, at least some of them, are quite OK.
